History

NECCDC was established over 18 years ago when it was first held in 2008.

Since then, the following Institutions have hosted the competition:

Over the years, we have had competitors from across 7 different states: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont and over 25 educational institutions.

NECCDC 2024

The 2024 NECCDC competition focuses on defending critical infrastructure, with participants protecting both IT and OT systems. Teams from top schools in the Northeast, compete to safeguard industrial control systems from cyber threats.

NECCDC 2023

NECCDC 2023 centered on securing resilient cloud infrastructures, where participants managed and protected scalable services in cloud environments. The focus was on maintaining uptime and compliance with service-level agreements in large-scale enterprise networks.

NECCDC 2022

Participants were tasked with securing systems by improving network and service visibility. The competition emphasized managing endpoint detection, identity management, and zero-trust principles in response to sudden security challenges.

NECCDC 2021

NECCDC 2021 centered around the theme of Mobility with participants working as a security team for a global news organization. The challenge focused on securing systems that were rapidly relocated, emphasizing endpoint detection, identity management, and adapting to mobile environments during the virtual event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

NECCDC 2020

This years theme of Visibility, emphasizing the importance of maintaining an unobstructed view into security controls and incident responses. Participants were tasked with improving network awareness through asset inventory, log analysis, and SIEM systems.
